Local Vancouver Island singer songwriter, Ryan McMahon, sold out his album release party on November 10th at the Ladysmith Eagles Hall in a record six hours. The event hosted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 2101 (FOE2101) in support of the Ladysmith Arts Council is one of many charity concerts and events coming up this fall.

“Creating a partnership with the local organizations has created a new and exciting time,” says Cathy Lundgren, owner of Elbowroom Recordings Ltd. “I became an Eagles member in 2021 and I’m proud to have found an organization that is as dedicated to the community as I am. The Arts Council has been an incredible supporter of Ryan, so it made perfect sense to bring the two organizations together to host the release of his upcoming album.”

Ryan McMahon is kicking off the release of his album Live Now two nights before heading out as support for Canadian iconic artist, Tom Cochrane. McMahon opened up for Burton Cummings for eleven dates throughout British Columbia and Alberta in June of this year and will start a run of seven with Tom Cochrane on November 13th in Vernon, BC. The tour will see him coming back to Vancouver Island for five shows in Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Courtenay and Campbell River.

McMahon’s new album includes the first single One More Fire which was released on April 22, 2022. The Ladysmith Arts Council hosted the release concert which included a surprise appearance by one of McMahon’s best friends in music, country star Aaron Pritchett.

Pritchett discovered Ryan during a charity concert in support of Ronald McDonald House in 2021 and took McMahon under his wing to record at The Warehouse Studios (owned by another Canadian great, Bryan Adams) in August of that year. They recorded One More Fire with a team that created a song that was welcomed by over fifty stations throughout Canada and the US.

The success of One More Fire inspired McMahon to return to the Warehouse again and again. He recorded three more songs in March of 2022, which included the follow up single Lost & Found, and his current single Sometimes Life’s Amazing was recorded just after his debut set at SunFest at the beginning of August of the same year.

“This has been the longest,  but most rewarding, recording of an album that I’ve ever created,” admits McMahon. “Taking the time to ensure the songs were recorded with the right people, the right way, at the right time has built an appreciation in myself for the quality of the music we are about to deliver.”

Most recently, McMahon spent a Monday morning in local watering hole, Zack’s Lounge and the afternoon tossing himself down embankments and running from his own darkness at Slack Point creating the official video for the next single Feed Your Mind. “Everyone has parts of them that they have to fight to overcome. Feed Your Mind is about making those choices and keeping your head filled with light and choosing your fate,” says Ryan.

The Arts Council of Ladysmith  and the FOE Auxiliary 2101 are in discussions to find a way to add a date with the sell out of the show happening so fast. “We are delighted with the sellout, but we would like to announce another date by the end of the week to give people who want to celebrate our local artist and support the Arts Council another chance to do so. The response was overwhelming and we would like to thank the FOE Auxiliary 2101 for developing Charity Concerts at the Eagles Hall.” states Andrea Rosato-Taylor, President of the Ladysmith Arts Council.

“The Charity Concerts have really taken off,” says Junior past Madam President, Debby Baker. “As an organization that is built on community, we are proud to provide a venue and host events where our members, their family and friends can gather. The events support causes and organizations which is in line with our motto of ‘People helping people’. Hosting Ryan’s album release makes this event not only charitable, but celebratory!”
